Or, this dialogue between Sir Selwyn’s, the magistrate, and Darcy, as Darcy goes to his home to report to him a body is found in the woodlands. So any thoughts on this from the readership? Do you like to see your steampunk characters in Victorian ruffles, or modern daring? Something in between? I’d love to know how people feel about this. ![]() However, I believe for marketing purposes, the publisher has decided to use a more contemporary steampunk vision on the recent covers. In the Gaslight Chronicles, technology and certain social mores are more advanced than they really were in the 1850s, but fashion and most of society is fairly authentic. In an alternate history world, there’s always the question of just HOW alternate everything is. This, I think illustrates one of the problems with the label steampunk. While a lady who works with machines for a living might be seen in coveralls, she’s still too much of a lady to ever appear in public in her undergarments. Now those readers familiar with the Gaslight Chronicles might wonder why Wink, who hates corsets with a passion, is not only wearing one of the infernal devices, but isn’t wearing anything else over it. ![]() Here is the cover for Moonlight and Mechanicals, a Gaslight Chronicles novel, coming October 22 from Carina Press. ![]() ![]() ![]() Therefore, a student should take challenges and turn it into an addition to help onto succeeding and to realize one can achieve anything one is passionate about. Our protagonist, is slowly becoming less of a victim as he finds his place among the stacked deck. It’s hard to tell just what is a dream now, other than to sort out this madness through a mystery woman and her fortune-telling skills. What is human? Who is the Nameless, other than a puppeted soul guided by cruel destiny? I feel as though he is a part of the reader, feeling some sort of humanity within himself, yet well aware of the acts of brutality somewhat engaged in. Which brings me back to the question of this book. So much optimism, for just a few panels leading to the terrible pathos. I think of that poor woman, ordered to stay put while her comrades remain maimed. But then again, just how much of this fiction can I take seriously? There is so much horror, with little glimmers of hope, snuffed out by the next issue. Surprise, the veiled woman is Grant Morrison. I was almost hoping for some insane meta reveal much like that in his past work in Animal Man. I engage at the strange torment within this series, and wonder what goes through Grant Morrison’s mind. But who is the Veiled Lady and what part will she play in Earth’s salvation-or its damnation?
